ABB, the leading company of power and automation technology leader worldwide opens its annual biggest customer event in Beijing on May 11. The event is ABB Automation World China with its’ theme of energy efficiency and renewable energy.

According to China’s renewable development plan, non-fossil fuels will make up 15% of total energy consumption by 2020. The topic, 'How to utilize non-fossil energy to support the development of renewable energy and environmental protection', has become a hot topic among the public. Currently, wind and PV has reached mature development stage, while development regarding biomass trend to be in multi-directional.

Regarding this topic,Ulrich Spiesshofer, head of ABB Global Discrete and automation and motion control business commented during the industry forum with its theme of renewable energy and the media briefing afterward,” ABB Group have participated in many key projects and made significant contribution to renewable energy development. For instance, the largest grid-connected solar power plant in the Nordic countries, built on the roof of an ABB’s Pit?j?nm?ki factory, has been powered up last year. In addition,we won an order from Actelios SpA, through its subsidiary Actelios Solar SpA, in Italy to supply three photovoltaic (PV) solar power plants in western Sicily. Our traction technologies also powered South Africa’s new high-speed railway, the Gautrain. In the future,we will continue to devote ourselves to the renewable energy development with advanced technology and core competitiveness.”

ABB plays a vital role in both supporting global development and facilitating rapid renewable energy development in China. According to our performance last year, ABB achieved 49% growth in wind, 26% growth in water and 24% growth in service business in China. Meanwhile, ABB keeps a strong focus in the railway industry field by setting up the new company Guangzhou ABB Microunion Traction Equipment in Guangzhou last year and localizing more railway related technologies and products.

In regard to ABB's involvement in China key projects such as water, wind power and e-mobility, Robert Larsson, the local head of ABB NAS&China Discrete automation and motion control division, mentioned “We supplied Generator Circuit Breakers (GCBs) to major hydropower plants (HPP) in China as part of power sources to China’s “West to East power transmission” program last year. Meanwhile,we also has actively participated in a number of large-scale wind projects in China, such as providing converters to the “Three Gorges Wind Power Project” in Jiuquan, Gansu province, the Jiangsu coastal Wind Farm, the East Inner Mongolia Wind Farm, and the Zhangbei Wind Farm. We also provided gas insulated switchgears (GIS) and motors to China’s first offshore wind farm at Shanghai Donghai Bridge. In 2010, we also played a significant role in the construction of China’s largest ever electric vehicle charging station project, at the Shenzhen Universiade Center. It is a milestone.”

ABB believes there is continuous strong growth regarding energy efficiency and emission reduction, renewable energy, water, railway, and service fields in China, thus ABB will increase its investment pace this year. Moreover, ABB will continue to offer customers with its advanced technology and value-added service as well as to facilitate renewable energy development as whole.
